What a fantastic start to the school year! The children, both returning and new, are brimming with enthusiasm for learning. We appreciate your support in making the first week of school a smooth transition. The children eagerly enter their classrooms each morning, ready for new lessons and fun!
Saturday is Maria Montessori’s 154th birthday! We had a short parade of hats on our trike track this morning in honor of our beautiful Maria, singing Happy Birthday in Italian and following up with ice pops. We have been focusing on the preliminary lessons in the Practical Life and Sensorial areas. These lessons help develop hand and eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, self-control, independence, confidence, and order. The children have also been focusing on their grace and courtesy lessons, using polite words such as “please” and ‘thank you,” waiting their turn, how to interrupt for help, etc. Some of the older children have begun working on more advanced lessons in the room’s Language and Math areas.
In the first half of September, we will introduce the map of the world, land, air, water, living/non-living, vertebrae and invertebrates, the sun, and moon phases. In the second half of this month, we will be learning about nutrition, World Peace Day, Stories of Johnny Appleseed, parts of the apple, and tasting an apple.
As a friendly reminder, please send in a photo of your child and your whole family for the binder we will be keeping in the library. The children, as well as their classmates, enjoy seeing their pictures in our book. Thank you to those who have done so already!
We want to express our gratitude to those who have purchased items from our class wish list to enrich our classroom! The link to the wish list will be available throughout the year at the top of the website posts. We encourage all parents to consider contributing. Also, a friendly reminder to return your orange folders on Tuesday. We hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend.
In Peace,
Ms. Samara, Ms. Jodi & Ms. Rita
