Happy Friday! In the past month, we have focused on the sun, moon, living/nonliving, plant/animal, vertebrate/invertebrate, and parts of the apple. Our kindergartners enjoyed their first field trip to the Pine Valley library, enjoying Mr. Scooter's engaging activities and choosing a book to take home. Please remember to return your books to the library by October 25. They eagerly await their second field trip to Mike’s Farm on October 11th. This is always a favorite; we're sure they'll have a great time!

October brings cooler temperatures and a diverse range of lessons. We will learn all about the parts of a pumpkin and a bat, as well as focus on the world, land, air, water, nutrition, and fire safety. It's going to be an exciting and educational month!

Some important dates coming up in October:

·      October 4th at 8:30 room parent orientation (Corrigan’s Cottage)

·      October 4th at 2:00 parent volunteer orientation (Corrigan’s Cottage)

·      October 8th Picture Day

·      October 14th Teacher workday (no school for kids)

·      October 24th Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat (more info will be sent out)

The donation drive in October will be for Nourish NC. We are asking for non-perishable food items to help support hunger in our community.

November 1st will be a day for parent-teacher conferences. Please look for an email to sign up for a time slot in the next couple of weeks.

We hope you have a fun and safe weekend!

Here is a message from our room moms:

Welcome, Sea Star Class Families!

We hope the school year has been going well for you so far. As we finish the normalization period, we wanted to take a moment to reach out to you as your room parents for this year (Deidra-Jonah's Mom, Amber—Dakota’s Mom, and Nicole—Nora‘s Mom). Our role is to be the bridge between the parents and the teachers.

We have some fantastic activities planned for this year, and we would love your involvement and help!

Volunteer Orientation

If you were hoping to volunteer in the classroom this year, please arrange to attend the upcoming parent volunteer orientation on Monday, October 4th, at 2 p.m. A link will be sent out once the sign-up date approaches.

Volunteer Opportunities

Please click here to view all of the volunteer opportunities for the upcoming school year. The first opportunity to volunteer in the classroom will be on Halloween.

We are looking for an in-room craft volunteer, a snack volunteer, and a volunteer to bring in a Halloween-themed book. If you are not available to come into the classroom, a snack or book volunteer is an easy way to help out the class without having to come into the classroom.

If you are interested or want more information about each volunteer opportunity, please click the link here.

Weekly Volunteer Opportunities- We need Letter Sound Volunteers!

In addition to the volunteer opportunities above, we have weekly opportunities to assist the teacher with letter sounds. If you are a parent who would like to come to the classroom regularly, then this volunteer opportunity is for you.

Children enter a sensitive reading period, which includes learning letter sounds between three and five years old. After the child has learned the first set of letters, he/she can start building words using the movable alphabet. With a lot of practice, they can decode words independently. To leverage this sensitive period and provide the children with the regular practice they need, we are looking for letter-sound volunteers every day of the week from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. If this interests you, please reply or sign up here.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to a fantastic school year!

Sincerely,

Deidra Price- ddnoelp@aol.com
